Emma has an extensive background in the disability sector, with experience across inclusive education, advocacy, and support work. Currently undertaking a Bachelor of Disability and Developmental Education, she is driven by a strong desire to continuously expand her knowledge across various areas of disability and to provide neuro-affirming support.
Emma is deeply passionate about raising awareness and fostering acceptance of disability, guided by the voices and insights of those with lived experience. She is committed to positively advocating for people living with disability, supporting their families, and promoting equity and inclusion in all aspects of life. Emma has completed a Certificate in Disability Advocacy, along with additional training in Disability Awareness, Key Word Sign, AUSLAN, and Positive Behaviour Support.
Having worked in the autism space for several years, Emma has contributed to state-level projects, including collaborating with the Department of Human Services to facilitate consultations with the autistic and autism communities. This work played a key role in shaping her state’s first Autism Strategy and Charter. Her professional interests include Autism, Intellectual Disability, complex behavioural support needs, and augmentative and alternative communication.
Emma is committed to using a person-centred and strength-based approach in her work, with a focus on promoting quality of life and creating environments of equal opportunity for all participants.
Outside of work, Emma enjoys listening to podcasts or reading a good book, convincing herself that 6am gym sessions are a great idea, and teaching dance to her amazing students at an inclusive dance studio.
